House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515 Dear Representative In 1975, Indonesia brutally invaded East Timor. Recent changes in Indonesia have given hope to the Timorese people that their right to self-determination might be restored after 23 years of a brutal occupation that killed over one-third of the population. I am writing to urge you to suppport the democratic aspirations of the East Timorese by co-sponsoring and voting for the following legislation: House Concurrent Resolution (H.Con. Res.) 258, which supports East Timor's right to self-determination, was introduced by Representatives Lowey (D-NY), Porter (R-IL), Lantos (D-CA) and Christopher Smith (R-NJ). The International Military Training Accountability Act (H.R. 3802), introduced by Rep. Nita Lowey, closes loopholes that allow the U.S. military to continue training Indonesian troops guilty of human rights violations, despite a congressional ban intended to stop all combat training to Indonesia. I look forward to your response. Thank you. Sincerely, Address:
