Jun-12:58
The Portuguese navy will send a mission to East Timor soon to prepare
the creation of a naval school and begin training of machinists for two
patrol boats promised by Lisbon,. Defense Minister Julio Castro Caldas
announced the military aid programs with the former Portuguese territory
Tuesday during a meeting of European Union ministers in Luxembourg. The
two patrol boats have already been built and will be delivered to Timor's
transition UN administration by year's end, Castro Caldas added. He said
Portugal's High Institute for Military Studies was also preparing a
"profile study" of the territory's future security and defense
needs for use by UNTAET.
