East Timor: Fisheries Support Project Launched this Week 2 Mai-19:00
A project aiming to increase the catch of fish in East Timorese waters
was launched this week with the support of the territorial
administration's agriculture department and the non-governmental
organization Timor Aid.
The project is centered on the installation of traditi[o]nal
structures, made with floats, hanging lines and palm leaves and used in
fish breeding and feeding zones. They are being placed in the waters off
Atauro island and near the town of Hera east of Dili, enabling local
fisherment [sic] to substantially increase their catch.
The material used for the structures was donated by the Australian NGO
AusAID.
Other aid material earmarked for the fisheries sector includes outboard
motors, nets, rope and life preservers donated by the Chinese government.
