NEW CABINET FOR EAST TIMOR

After fighting for his country’s independence for 25 years Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr Jose Ramos-Horta said it was an honor to accept the invitation to become the Senior Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in the second transitional cabinet of East Timor. The second cabinet was named today after more than a week of negotiations, following the election of the Constituent Assembly in East Timor’s first democratic elections.

“It is an honor and my duty to serve the people of East Timor. A people that have suffered immensely, shown enormous courage and tenacity, resilience and creativity, and yet are asking so little.” Dr Ramos-Horta said today. A full copy of Dr Ramos-Horta’s acceptance speech is available.
