14 Jan 02 20:23 East Timor: Hospitals Get Brazilian Medical Expertise
The Brazilian health ministry is seeking hospitals interested in taking
part in a "brother hospital" project with East Timor, which will
result in three-month placings of health professionals to the emerging
southeast Asian nation.
The project began in December and aims to establish a partnership
between each of Timor`s thirteen districts and a Brazilian hospital. A
team from the Conceiçao hospital in the southern Brazilian city of Porto
Alegre is already established in the city of Bacau in Timor.
Julia Falcao Costa, of the department for international assistance
projects in the Brazilian health ministry, told Lusa that the project was
part of the support for reconstruction in Timor, which was bolstered after
the October visit to Brazil of Timor`s deputy- health minister, Joao
Soares Martins.
"The project has no expiry date and we are looking for
institutions interested in becoming brother hospitals to Timor",
Costa added.
