11 Mar 02 14:28 East Timor: FM Gama Presses Brussels for Further Aid
Increase
Portuguese Foreign Minister Jaime Gama expressed hope Monday that he
would be able to get the European Commission to boost aid to East Timor
during the next two years over an above an already agreed increase.
"There´s already been a first sign of opening" from the
commission "and we´ll insist as we did last year with good
results", Gama told reporters before a meeting with European Union
counterparts in Brussles.
A commission official confirmed that it had already agreed to raise
planned aid to Dili over 2003-2004 to euros 18 million from the initial
proposal of euros 13 million.
