Indonesian Government Suspends Closing East Timorese Refugee Camp
Kupang: The Indonesian government has suspended the closing of the East
Timorese refugee camp in East Nusa Tenggara until June.
Originally, the government planned to close the camp in May.
Stanis Tefa, the Chief of Social Development Bureau in East Nusa
Tenggara, said that the government would change its plan concerning with
political development in East Timor.
"Xanana was elected East Timor's President and is to be
inaugurated on May 20, when the country will declare its
independence," he said in Kupang on Wednesday (1/5).
Stanis went on to say that the Indonesia government would not close the
camp.
It will facilitate refugees that want to return to East Timor by
providing transportation.
"And the government will provide houses for the refugees that want
to stay in Indonesia," he said.
