Bush approves military sales for East Timor
Washington (dpa) U.S. President George W. Bush has given the green
light to weapons sales and military cooperation with East Timor, the
world's newest nation, the White House announced Wednesday.
In a brief memorandum to Secretary of State Colin Powell, Bush said
sales of defence articles and services to East Timor would be in the U.S.
interest. No specific sales were authorized.
The United States established full diplomatic relations with East Timor
when the former Indonesian colony marked its independence on May 20. dpa
