State to help Timor grow
21apr03
THE Victorian government will fund a $250,000 program to improve fruit
and vegetable production in the fledgling nation of East Timor.
The assistance and training program will be delivered through
Victoria's Department of Primary Industries, which has run similar schemes
in West Java, East Java, Bali, Sumatra and Kalimantan, as part of an
assistance program to Indonesia.
Victorian Agriculture Minister Bob Cameron today said the program in
East Timor would include field courses and material assistance.
He said problems included seed quality, pest and disease control and
crop wastage.
"This project will complement and build on Victoria's existing
assistance program to this fledgling democracy."
