East Timor joins ban on chemical weapons East Timor is to become the 152nd member of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. A statement issued by the Hague-based group says shows that by signing the convention, East Timor is committing to wiping out an entire category of weapons of mass destruction. East Timor ratified the OPCW convention on May 7 and will officially become a member of the United Nations organisation on June 6. The convention aims to eliminate chemical weapons by 2007.
