UNICEF Deputy visits National Hospital
During a visit to the National Hospital Guido Valadares, Vice-deputy of
UNICEF, Karin Holmgrunn Sham Poo, said that his visit was to see "in
loco" the conditions of the National Hospital and its needs. The
Director of the National Hospital, Antonio Caleres Junior, said that Mr
Sham Poo's visit was to find out about the immunization program for kids
under the age of one year and how it was implemented by the Hospital.
Commission C gives thumbs up to Central Bank
A Member of the National Parliament from Committee C, Rui Menezes, said
that it's important and positive to change the name of the Banking of
Payments Authority to the Central Bank of Timor-Leste. Mr Rui said that it
will help the future development of Timor-Leste and its economy.
PSD in congress
During the opening ceremony for the National congress of PSD, the
President, Mario Carrascalao, said that Timor-Leste, as a small country,
does not need a Special Police Force. Mr Carrascalao said that the Defence
Force of Timor-Leste (F-FDTL) will see their responsibilities diminished
with the creation of the Special Police Force. He added that it's a waste
of money that is much needed in the economy of Timor-Leste to help its
people.
Installation of pre-paid meters
The Director of Timor-Leste Electricity, Virgilio Guterres, said that
his department has started replacing old meters with 10.000 new pre-paid
meters to house holds around Dili.
JICA rocks Police with new band
The Vice- Inspector of the National Police Force in Timor-Leste, Joao
Belo Reis, said that his force will now be able to form a group to play
with the instruments donated by Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA).
He added that soon the Police Force will be on the road to entertain the
population.

Pastoral project for kids A new Pastoral Project for Kids has been
launched in Dili by the Bishop of the Diocese of Baucau and Dili, D.
Basilio do Nascimento, the special representative of UNICEF in Timor-Leste,Yoshiteru
Uramoto and the Director of the Ministry of Health, Feliciano Pinto. The
Pastoral Project for kids is a project sponsored by the Government of
Brasil, the Catholic Church in Timor-Leste, and UNICEF. The project
objective is to promote motherhood, nutrition and healthy kids.
Timor-Leste needs to establish relations with neighbours The
Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Olimpio Branco, said
that the Government of Timor-Leste policy is an international one and to
establish relations with all nations in the world.
Border issue needs solution The National Police Adviser, Cornelio Gama,
said that the Government of Timor-Leste needs to find a quick solution to
the border security issue before UNMISET ends its mandate in May 2004. Mr
Gama said that the National Police Force and F-FDTL should meet to discuss
the border security issue amongst them as soon as possible.
