INDONESIA URGED TO PRESS EAST TIMOR OVER CITIZENS "ISOLATED"
IN DILI MOSQUE
Kupang: An official from the Office of Indonesian Interests (KUKRI) in
Dili should request an explanation from the East Timorese Government about
the fate of Indonesian citizens who have been "isolated" in the
An Nur Mosque Complex in Dili.
The Secretary of the Founding Board of the Council of the East Timorese
Community in Indonesia (Makasti), Hukman Reni, said in Kupang, on Tuesday
(27 April), that the East Timorese Government had deliberately trapped
Indonesian citizens in the An Nur Mosque Complex, and then treated them
like illegal immigrants to show their hatred of the Indonesian people.
"At the time of voter registration for the General Elections in
East Timor, the people in the An Nur Mosque Complex went to register
themselves, but were refused by the East Timorese government on the
grounds that they had not resided in East Timor for five years," he
said.
