PRESIDENT XANANA GUSMÃO CONDEMNS MADRID BOMBINGS
In a letter today to His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain, H.E.
President Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão vehemently condemned yesterday’s
tragic bombings in Madrid, which claimed the lives of 192 and injured over
1400 people.
President Xanana Gusmão strongly supports King Juan Carlos’
affirmation that these acts of terrorism will not achieve their aims nor
manage to break the faith of freedom loving people in democracy.
The President further added in his letter that the State and People of
Timor-Leste fully support the efforts made by the Government and People of
Spain in re-establishing peace and a stable environment throughout the
country.
President Gusmão extended his most profound condolences to King Juan
Carlos I and the Spanish people, especially to the families of the
victims, for the tragic loss of numerous innocent lives and expressed
Timor-Leste’s continued solidarity and friendship with Spain.

Statement of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste
on Bomb Terror in Madrid, Spain
The Government and the People of Timor-Leste learned with sadness and
outrage the terrorist attack in Madrid, Spain, which killed at least 192
peoples and wounding more than 1,200. The Government and the people of
Timor-Leste express their profound sympathy and condolences to the
relatives and close friends of the victims.
As friends, the Government and the people of Timor-Leste offer their
solidarity and unconditional support to the Government and the people of
Spain in their effort to eradicate extremist and terrorism. The world must
not allow terrorism to prevail.
The Government and people of Timor-Leste will continue to cooperate
with all the countries in the world to neutralize the extremist elements
whose agenda is to destabilize, undermine democracy and freedom.
