East Timor: Gusmão says he won't seek second presidential term Dili,
March 17 (Lusa) - East Timor`s president, Xanana Gusmão, said Wednesday
that he would not stand for re- election in his country`s second
presidential elections in 2007.
Gusmão, elected by a landslide majority in April, 2002, told Lusa that
he was "tired", but would see out his five-year stint as Dili's
head of state.
Meanwhile, a diplomatic source said Timorese Foreign Minister José
Ramos Horta will visit Angola and Mozambique next month to prepare for
Gusmão`s first official visit to the two African nations later this year.
Ramos Horta visits Poland on April 1, before traveling to Angola (April
7-10) and then Mozambique (April 12-16). His trip to the two fellow
lusophone states will also be used to boost bilateral ties.
