Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara, Feb 16 (ANTARA) - The Security Task Force in
the border area of East Nusa Tenggara and East Timor on Thursday handed an
illegal border-crosser, a Cuban doctor who was working in East Timor, to
the East Nusa Tenggara's Intelligence and Security Directorate for further
questioning, a local military officer said.
Dr. Ramon Ballestero Escobar (39) crossed the Indonesian-East Timor
border and entered the territory of the Indonesian province of East
Nusatenggara Wednesday morning because he reportedly could not bear living
conditions in the newly independent neighboring country.
Wirasakti Military Command Chief Col. Noch Bola said the Indonesian
Military (TNI) had completed its task by guarding him in entering the area
illegally on Wednesday.
"Because he seeks asylum, we hand over his case to the Police and
he is now being questioned by the Police," he added.
Dr. Escobar who worked in Suai, Covalima district, was found by Border
Security Task Force command chief Lt. Col. Ediwan Prabowo and his men when
they were patrolling the border in the Indonesian district of Belu and
took him into custody at the task force's Pukapehan Post in southern Belu
for trespassing on Indonesian territory.
