Australian researchers working in Dili have presented East Timor's President Jose Ramos-Horta with recommendations from the country's youth.
The report comes from more than 450 interviews with 15- to 25-year-old Timorese about ways to stem the violence and instability they have seen in the past year.
A joint team from a youth charity and the University of New South Wales (UNSW) spent six months on the project.
UNSW Student Natalie Grove, who is in Dili, says the young Timorese talked about a culture of revenge that needs to change.
"Leaders could solve this political crisis easily, but the crisis in the community is going to keep going if we always want to take pay back and we always want to revenge killings and house burnings from before," she said.
