Kuwait to share oil expertise with Timor Leste -- Timor-Leste PM

(with photos) KUWAIT, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- Prime Minister and Minister of Defense
of Timor Leste Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao said here Wednesday that Kuwait would
share its expertise in oil production with his country.
The official told a press conference at Bayan Palace that he and his
accompanying delegations held talks with senior Kuwaiti officials and Kuwait
would provide professional training in the oil field to people from Timor Leste.
To a question by KUNA, Gusmao said that his country is new in the field of
petroleum, plans to establish a national oil company, and wants to learn from
the Kuwaiti experience.
He said Kuwaiti ministers he met shared and discussed their skills and
expertise with the visiting officials and the two sides agreed that Kuwait would
provide university scholarships for students from his country.
The two sides also discussed opening embassies in Kuwait and Timor Leste, he
added.
Gusmao expressed his hope that Timor Leste would cooperate with Kuwait
Investment Authority (KIA) and Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED),
describing the Kuwaiti economy as one of the fastest growing economies in the
world and one of the most free economies in the Middle East.
Gusmao thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for its hospitality, saying
"Kuwait has a long history of generosity." He stressed that his visit,
which began Monday, was very beneficial to his country, saying "we were
inspired by what we saw here." He also said that his country have a lot in
common as they occupy about the same area and are both rich in oil.
During the three-day visit, Gusmao and his accompanying delegation met with
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the
Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime
Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, and a number of ministers.

Looking forward to cooperation with Kuwait -- Timor-Leste minister Economics

(with photos) KUWAIT, Oct 29 (KUNA) -- Planning and Finance Minister of
Timor-Leste Emilia Pires said here Wednesday that her country is looking forward
to cooperate economically with Kuwait.
Speaking to reporters, Pires said Timor-Leste is glad to benefit from the
knowledge, skills, and expertise of Kuwait in the oil field.
"Kuwait is far ahead of us," she said.
In response to a question by KUNA, the minister assured Kuwaiti investors
that the security situation in her country is stable, adding that order was
restored following the assassination attempt on Timor-Leste's President Jose
Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao last February.
All armed rebels who were roaming in the mountains surrendered without firing
a single shot and are now in jail, she stressed.
In addition, the crisis caused by a group of "petitioners", about
800 former army personnel who claimed they had been subjected to discrimination,
was ended through dialogue, she pointed out.
She also said that her country's Ministry of Social Solidarity is also
working on solving the problem of refugees, closing 28 out of 54 camps.
The delegation of Timor-Leste, accompanying the country's Prime Minister and
Minister of Defense Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao on his three-day visit to Kuwait, met
with officials from Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and discussed
investment opportunities in Timor-Leste, she said.
As Timor-Leste is a fledgling country, investment opportunities in all fields
