COMMITTEE A UNANIMOUSLY APPROVES PARLIAMENTARY RESOLUTION ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE COMMISSION FOR RECEPTION, TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION (CAVR "CHEGA!" REPORT)
The Parliamentary Committee for Constitutional Issues, Justice, Public Administration, Local Power and Government Legislation – Committee A – today approved unanimously a Resolution on the implementation of the CAVR "Chega!" Report.
1. Recognizes that there has been no systematic consideration by organs of the sovereignty of the CAVR's Final Report and Recommendations and acknowledges the important work and enormous achievements of the CAVR;
2. Recalls that the people of Timor Leste suffered systematic violations of their human rights;
3. The National Parliament acknowledges the suffering of the victims and recognizes that many victims continue to suffer and remain in need of assistance and justice;
The National Parliament recognizes the importance of learning from its findings and implementing its recommendations by resolving to call on all Government ministries and State institutions bearing constitutional responsibility for the areas involved in the CAVR's Recommendations to cooperate under the leadership of the National Parliament in order to achieve the implementation of the CAVR's Recommendations.
The National Parliament also invites all non-State institutions including Catholic Church, Media, Political Parties, NGO's, Universities and private schools to support and participate in the implementation of the CAVR's Recommendations.
Members of Committee A expressed their full support to have the Resolution tabled in the Assembly for debate in order for Party Benches to express their views.
