Coimbra, 14 Mar (Lusa) - O Prémio Nobel da Paz D. Ximenes Belo defendeu hoje, em Coimbra, que a eliminação da pobreza deve continuar a ser uma prioridade em Timor-Leste e a nível internacional.

"A eliminação da pobreza deve permanecer uma prioridade tanto a nível nacional como internacional", preconizou D. Ximenes Belo, ao frisar que "Timor-Leste é um dos países mais pobres do mundo".

O bispo emérito de Díli foi um dos oradores no Encontro Nacional de Quadros Timorenses, que decorreu hoje num dos anfiteatros da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra.

Para o prelado, a pobreza constitui "uma injustiça primordial" e "a pobreza extrema também gera conflito e violência".

"Não se pode tolerar um mundo onde vivem super-ricos e miseráveis. Tais contrastes são um atentado à dignidade da pessoa humana", sublinhou.

Na sua intervenção, D. Ximenes Belo defendeu também uma "educação para a paz", nas famílias, nas escolas e em todos os sectores da sociedade, para "mostrar uma outra visão da guerra e para evitar que o fenómeno bélico seja considerado normal".

"Deve ser uma tarefa de todos, em primeiro lugar do Estado timorense", sublinhou.

Na sua óptica, a independência "é uma realidade a ser construída dia a dia com sacrifício e preserverança".

"A luta continua, com as armas da inteligência, da capacidade de respeito pelos direitos humanos, do trabalho pelo bem comum, contra o analfabetismo, a intolerância, a preguiça, o ganho fácil", frisou D. Ximenes Belo.

Também orador na sessão da tarde do encontro, José Barreto Martins, embaixador da Missão Permanente de Timor-Leste junto da Comunidade de Países de Língua Portuguesa, considerou que o regresso a Timor "deve estar sempre no horizonte" dos timorenses na diáspora.

"Somos poucos para reconstruir o país", sustentou o diplomata, ao intervir perante os cerca de quatro dezenas e meia de estudantes e quadros que participaram no encontro.

Na sessão, participaram também Antonito de Araújo, encarregado de negócios da Embaixada de Timor-Leste em Portugal, e os presidentes da Associação dos Académicos Timorenses de Coimbra (ATC) e da Associação Timorense (AT), Félix de Jesus e Alberto Araújo, respectivamente.

Organizado pela ATC em colaboração com a AT, o encontro decorreu subordinado ao lema "Pensar a paz é pensar numa sociedade justa/Construir Timor-Leste de fora, dentro, de fora para dentro, de dentro para fora".
