East Timor: Japan funds repairs of water supply network in Dili [

Dili, East Timor, 27 May Japan has donated over US$7 million to East
Timor to carry out repairs on the drinking water supply network in Dili
and an agreement was signed to this end Tuesday at the Timorese Foreign
Affairs Ministry.
The Japanese ambassador to East Timor, Iwao Kitahara, said that the
pipe system had been “seriously damaged” since teh flood of 2005 and
the donation from Japan would be used to repair both the system and the
water treatment plant in Bemos.
The ambassador said that the water removed from the Bemos river
accounted for just 35 percent of domestic water consumption in the city
and adjacent districts.
Japan has so far donated US$35 million to the East Timor capital. (macauhub)
