U.S. to sign bilateral comprehensive partnership with Indonesia next year: envoy JAKARTA, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- United States government would signup a comprehensive bilateral agreement that covers various sectors with Indonesian government on the eve of President Barack Obama'svisit to Indonesia next year, the Bisnis Indonesia daily reported here on Friday. The confirmation was conveyed by U.S. ambassador to Indonesia Cameron R. Hume. According to Cameron, the agreement, called U.S.-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, would be signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President Barack Obama. The ambassador, however, could not confirm President Obama's Indonesian visit schedule next year. Cameron said that the agreement would pave the way for more cooperation between the two countries in terms of education, business and investment, climate change mitigation, scientific research, food security and defense. The comprehensive bilateral partnership was initiated by President Susilo during his visit to the United States in November2008. The Indonesian president initiative was responded well by President Obama. Further discussions on the bilateral agreement between the two countries were conducted during U.S. Secretary Hillary Clinton's visit to Jakarta in February this year. Negotiations over the sectors included in the partnership agreement are underway at the moment, conducted by the United States officials and their Indonesian counterparts.
