DILI, East Timor, Sept 27 (AFP) - Some 150 East Timorese members of the Indonesian
soldiers have refused to leave with the departing troops, and some have joined
independence forces with their weapons, a senior Indonesian officer said Monday.
"There are about 150 indigenous East Timorese who still stay," martial law
commander Major General Kiki Syahnakri told a farewell news conference here.
"Most of them already have a house, a farm, and some of them leave the unit to
join the Falintil and they have weapons," Syahnakri said.
He gave no further details.
The Falintil, the military arm of the National Council of East Timor Resistance (CNRT)
is mostly based in the mountains of the former Portuguese territory.
