Dear friends
ETAN needs your
support.
We are short
of funds and we need your help to get through
the next few months. The end of the northern
summer often means shortfalls in ETAN's
finances, and this year we have added expenses
for this 20th anniversary.
We need to raise
$1600 in the next few weeks and $8500 in the
next few days --
won't you please donate today?

I recently returned
from attending the 20th anniversary of the
historic referendum in Timor-Leste. The theme of
the celebration was the international solidarity
that provided crucial support for Timor's
struggle for liberation.

While in
Timor-Leste, I met so many people -- from the
prime minister to seasoned activists to young
Timorese students -- who expressed their
appreciation for ETAN's decades of solidarity
for the people of Timor-Leste.
Many told me how
important our information sharing and networking
are to them. They depend on us to keep them
informed with news about Timor-Leste, Indonesia,
and West Papua via our listservs, social media
and website. You may also.
I have returned with
many suggestions and ideas for how ETAN can
further our shared goals of justice and
accountability, respect for human rights, and
genuine democracy in the region.
Looking both at the
past and to the future, we shared ideas for
possible cooperative campaigns. And we
brainstormed ways to preserve and spread ETAN's
and others' history and experience of
international solidarity to younger activists
and other movements.
While I was there,
West Papua was (and remains) in crisis and many
East Timorese saw direct parallels with their
own freedom struggle. They asked about ETAN's
support for West Papua and we exchanged
suggestions on how best to support Papua.
ETAN's ability to
carry on our work - much less expand it - very
much depends on support from people like you.
Please donate today.
I want to thank all
those who have given during the past year. We
deeply appreciate your support for our work. I
hope that you can make an additional donation to
carry us through the next few months. If you
haven't given, I hope you will join those who
have.
As always, in
addition to any financial support, we welcome
your words of encouragement, criticism and
suggestions.
Again, thank you.
A luta continua,

P. S. The best way
to assure ETAN can continue our important work
is to become a sustainer and make a monthly
donation, best done by credit card, but checks
or automatic bank payments are also possible.
