Soares told Lusa in Krumbach on Sunday he had never threatened East Timor's civil servants with dismissal, describing reports to the controversy as "lies." Soares is one of several pro-Indonesian participants in the 4th intra-Timorese dialogue meeting near Vienna. However, Soares said it was the duty of all East Timorese civil servants to defend the government which gave them their bread and butter. Soares also denied claims he had threatened East Timorese students with the loss of their scholarships if they failed to support Jakarta's autonomy proposal for the occupied territory. The governor confirmed the killing of three Indonesian soldiers and an engineer in East Timor last week. Lusa/Fim Copyright© 1996 Agência Lusa E-Mail Agência Lusa Back to November Menu |
