XANANA MEETS PRESIDENT YUDHOYONO
Jakarta, Dec 16 (ANTARA) - Visiting Timor Leste President Xanana Gusmao met with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the latter's office here on Saturday evening, Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirayuda told newsmen after the meeting.
At the meeting with Yudhoyono, Xanana expressed hope that Indonesian and Timor Leste government officials would hold regular dialogs on problems arising in areas along their common border, he said.
"There are certain interests that will be served by continuous communication (between the two countries)," Wirayuda said.
The Timor Leste leader arrived at Yudhoyono's office at 5 p.m. local time and their meeeting lasted 35 minutes.
At the meeting, President Yudhoyono was accompanied by Wirayuda and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS.
Xanana told Yudhoyono he highly appreciated the Indonesian government's decision affecting its areas bordering Timor Leste following the spate of violence in his country a few months ago.
Aftr the violence in Timor Leste eurupted, Indonesia partially closed its border with its former 27th province.
Xanana also expressed hope that Indonesian businessmen would be prepared to invest in his country.
He said although Timor Leste's population was small, Indonesia could use his country as a base to export its various commodities to the European Union and the United States.
Wirayuda said that Timor Leste was one of the world's poorest countries but becuse of this status its exports to Europe and the United States were subject to lower import duties.
