TNI and E. Timor police repair bridge

ATAMBUA, East Nusa Tenggara (Antara): The Indonesian Military and the East Timorese National Police cooperated to repair a main bridge linking the two countries, an Indonesian officer said Monday.

"The bridge was damaged after being hit by a flash flood following incessant rain Friday and Saturday," Lt. Col. Ediwan Prabowo, commander of the TNI's border patrol, said.

"We also involved local villagers from both countries."

The East Timorese police were represented by its border patrol unit.

The bridge links the Mota Ain border post in East Nusa Tenggara's Belu regency with East Timor's Batugade border post.

Soldiers from Indonesia's 744th Infantry Battalion also cleared mud from the road connecting Silawan village with East Timor's Balibo subdistrict.

"The road connecting Silawan village to Haliwen airport was also covered by a landslide after the heavy rain," Lt. Col. Ferdinandus Ginting, commander of the infantry battalion, said. (***)
