I have long appreciated the work of the East Timor and Indonesia Action Network (ETAN). I first met them in 1999 soon after arriving in the U.S. to seek political asylum after facing persecution for my work in support of the West Papuan peoples.

I was impressed by ETAN's successful campaign to challenge and change U.S. policy to one supporting of East Timor's right to self-determination.

ETAN has long been a valued ally in our efforts to educate the U.S. people on West Papua and in our campaign to demand that the U.S. and Indonesia respect our rights, including our right to self-determination.
