Subject: Update from Ottawa Date: Sat, 18 Jul 1998 11:09:48 -0400 From: kerryp@jungle.ottawa.on.ca (Kerry Pither) Dear friends, The "Embassy of East Timor" and the solidarity camp set up around it is into day three in downtown Ottawa. So far, the camp has been a *huge* success. We have had to add another 5 metres to our petition quickly being filled up with messages to our foreign affairs minister, asking him to publicly support East Timor's right to self-determination. Last night we showed outdoor movies on East Timor, to a huge audience of passers-by and supporters. This was projected on to a giant screen, with everyone watching from the steps of the human rights monument. Having the Jazz Festival - which attracts tens of thousands - a block away, has also meant a constant flow of new people coming into the embassy. Pictures are available on ETAN/Ottawa's web page, accessible from the ETAN/Canada web page at www.etan.ca. Pictures are located at: http://www.etan.ca/ottawa/index.html In solidarity, Kerry Pither ---- This message comes from The Jungle BBS 209.151.28.196 port 3004 Cheap web hosting a funky First Class BBS and a lot of fonts ---- |
