Resistance movement to study possible solutions to East Timor issue
East Timor issue Krumbach, Austria, Nov. 02 (Lusa) - The National Timorese Resistance
Council (CNRT) has proposed during the current 4th intra-Timorese meeting that its
participants study all possible solutions to the occupied territory's conflict, as long as
they would lead to a referendum on self-determination.
The resistance movement has also called for the "full involvement" of the
people of East Timor in the process of negociations about their political future,
including the "direct participation" of the National Timorese Resistance Council
headed by Xanana Gusmao.
The pro-Indonesian participants in the meeting in Krumbach have rejected calls for a
referendum on self-determination for their troubled homeland. East Timor's controversial
pro-Indonesian governor, Abilio Osorio Soares, told Lusa there could be no solution to the
conflict "without the participation of Portugal, Indonesia and the United
Nations."
