The resistance movement has also called for the "full involvement" of the people of East Timor in the process of negociations about their political future, including the "direct participation" of the National Timorese Resistance Council headed by Xanana Gusmao. The pro-Indonesian participants in the meeting in Krumbach have rejected calls for a referendum on self-determination for their troubled homeland. East Timor's controversial pro-Indonesian governor, Abilio Osorio Soares, told Lusa there could be no solution to the conflict "without the participation of Portugal, Indonesia and the United Nations."
