Subject: Yayasan HAK re: Alas Incidents

The legal aid NGO in East Timor, Yayasan Hak, issued a press release on Nov. 26 that made two demands:
1) The government should stop the military operation in the Alas area and pull out all of its personnel from every post in that area.
2) Give access to independent institutions, such as the National Commission on Human Rights and NGOs that work on human rights issues, and invite the UN Human Rights Commission to conduct an investigation that could clarify what actually happened there to the general society.
