DILI: Three Indonesian soldiers and one civilian were killed when a mob including
separatist rebels attacked a military post in East Timor, sources and the military said
yesterday.
East Timor military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Supadi said about 50 people attacked
the military post on Monday in the territory's Alas sub-district, about 200km south of the
capital, Dili.
One of the attackers also was shot dead in the fight, he said.
The mob, which arrived at the post clamouring for the local commander to come out, also
took a number of firearms. The commander was absent during the attack.
Lieutenant-Colonel Supadi warned yesterday: "So far ABRI (the army) has been
restraining itself but the patience of ABRI has its limits."
