East Timor: Livestock Vaccination Campaign Almost Completed 10
Jan-18:45
A three-month campaign to vaccinate 120,000 cattle and buffalo in East
Timor should be complete in mid-January, thus ending the first phase of
efforts to combat the spread of hemorrhagic septicimia.
The disease has been a top cause of losses for East Timorese farmers.
UN agriculture officials in East Timor meanwhile confirmed this week
that several cases of swine cholera had been detected among pigs in some
areas of the half-island territory. The agriculture department is studying
a vaccination campaign to deal with this problem, with plans calling for
half of East Timor's 260,000 pigs to be vaccinated by the middle of
February.
