East Timor: Reconstruction of First Public Buildings Completed 22
Jan-18:32
The transition administration of East Timor will this week receive the
keys to the first public buildings renovated with funds from multilateral
aid programs, a UN spokesman announced Monday in Dili.
The buildings in question are all located in Baucau, the territory's
second city, and include the prosecutor's office, local prison building
and court-house, which had been destroyed in the violent aftermath of the
Aug. 1999 independence plebiscite.
All renovation work was carried out by East Timorese construction
companies.
Four public buildings are currently being rebuilt in the capital city,
Dili, in projects employing more than 350 East Timorese and due to be
finished between February and April.
