14 Nov 01 11:56 East Timor: Indonesia Postpones Joint-Border-Committee
Meet in Dili
A meeting of the joint East Timor-Indonesia border committee scheduled
to begin Wednesday in Dili has been postponed at the request of Jakarta´s
foreign ministry, officials said.
A government spokesman said Dili was studying the Indonesian request
the meeting, the first in three to take place in East Timor, be
rescheduled for next week.
He said Indonesia requested the postponement alleging
"administrative difficulties".
The bilateral meeting was to have discussed issues of border
demarcation, and security and cooperation along the frontier dividing
Timor Island.
In announcing the meeting Monday, Dili´s foreign minister, Jose Ramos
Horta, said the fact it was taking place inside East Timor for the first
time was an "important step in the strengthening of bilateral
relations".
Created in September of last year, the joint border committee has met
twice, most recently in July, at Indonesian venues.
