Where is RP help for East Timor?
DAVAO CITY, Southern Mindanao -- Leaders of East Timor want assistance
on technology and skills transfer from the Philippine government. They
also have expressed disappointment for what they perceive as inadequate
support they have so far received from Filipino leaders.
This sentiment was disclosed early this week by the Initiatives for
International Dialogue (IID), a Davao-based NGO active in East Timor
advocacy. Officials of IID met two weeks ago with Timorese President
Xanana Gusmao, Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri and Foreign Minister Jose
Ramos-Horta after Mr. Gusmao was sworn in as East Timor president.
Mr. Ramos-Horta recalled that when he and now elected President Xanana
Gusmao visited Manila, government leaders and businessmen who met them
promised official assistance especially in technology skills transfer
