It's difficult to eradicate fuel smuggling to E. Timor by sea: Police
27 - 01 - 03
JAKARTA (JP): East Nusa Tenggara Police complained on Sunday over the
difficulties to curb fuel smuggling from the province to East Timor by sea
due to organized criminal group in the border region, Antara reported.
"It is difficult to eradicate smuggling because people in the
border region had been engaged in these illegal activities," Belu
military chief Lt. Col. Tjuk Agus Minahasa said.
He called on his counterparts in East Timor to take part in the fuel
smuggling eradication.
The soaring price of fuel and utiltiy in the tiny country has triggered
smugglers in East Nusa Tenggara to sell the materials from the province to
East Timor illegally.
