Subject: Darwin City council to set up library in East Timor
Last Update: Wednesday, June 16, 2004. 4:39pm (AEST) City council to set up
library in East Timor
Darwin City Council has today sent a small delegation to East Timor to look
at helping set up a library in the capital.
Lord Mayor Peter Adamson says there is no library in Dili, just an area known
as the Xanana Gusmao reading room.
He says the delegation's librarian will assess what is required in the areas
of books and technical support.
The Lord Mayor says other councils are also keen to help.
"In East Timor there are effectively still the four languages and so
there'd have to be some major discussion with the folk over there in the terms
of what mix of the different languages they would want," he said.
