East Timor: Six Timorese students enrolled at Mozambique police academy
Maputo, Aug. 25 (Lusa) - Six students from East Timor have this year
enrolled to take a degree in police science at Mozambique's Academy of
Police Science (ACIPOL) as part of an agreement between the Mozambique and
East Timor governments, officials said Thursday.
The students, who will undertake a five-year degree, are the first
foreigners to enrol at the academy.
Portugal supported ACIPOL, which was set up five years ago, by sending
several instructors from the Portuguese police to design the academy's
curriculum.
Training cooperation between Mozambique and East Timor began in the
1970s when an agreement was established with the Eduardo Mondlane
University (UEM) in Maputo to teach exiled Timorese students.
East Timor's current Prime Minister, Mari Alkatari, received his law
degree from UEM.
