East Timor: Report shows Dili is 8th most expensive city in Asia Dili, Aug. 8 (Lusa) - The capital of East Timor is the 8th most expensive city in Asia, a report drawn up by human resources specialist ECA International has shown. Dili was listed ahead of cities such as Singapore and Beijing in the report published on August 2, which looked at 39 cities and compared the price of a basket of 125 goods including groceries, electrical goods, clothes and services. The three top spots on the list were taken by the Japanese cities of Tokyo, Yokohama and Kobe, respectively. East Timor is statistically the poorest country in Asia and one of the poorest in the world. ECA International director Lee Quane said Dili's surprising 8th place was due to the fact that most consumer goods in the country were imported to satisfy the demands of the country's foreign residents. The least expensive city in Asia, according to the report, is Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. EL/CAA. Lusa
