E Timor PM places wreath at war memorial

East Timorese Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao has laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier at Australia's War Memorial in Canberra as part of his visit to the national capital where he has spent several days meeting with officials including Australia's Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Mr Gusmao met with the former head of Australia's Defence Force, retired General Peter Cosgrove, at the memorial.

The one time defence force chief commanded the international force which went to East Timor to oversee the transition to independence.
