Foreign Ministry surveys RI-Timor Leste borders
The Foreign Ministry is conducting a survey of areas bordering
Indonesia and Timor Leste, including five regions that remain
disputed, an official said Wednesday.
The results of the survey will be reported to Foreign Minister
Hassan Wirajuda and will later be discussed with the House of
Representatives to set the border lines between the two neighbors.
The five disputed areas are Imbate, Sumkaen, Haumeniana, Nilulat
and Tibana, and are located between Oecusse and Timor Tengah Utara
regency.
Dodie Herado, who is heading the survey team, said a survey was
needed to boost security in the areas following reports that
Indonesian security officials there had been facing difficulties in
guarding, citing financial constraints.
“We are going to check the facilities of security forces in the
border areas,” Dodie told Antara news agency.
