investment openings on Portugal visit
Dili, July 14 (Lusa) - Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri left East Timor Thursday for a week-long visit to Portugal, where he will discuss with executives of three companies investment opportunities in the world's newest nation.
Alaktiri told Lusa he would hold talks with representatives from the partially state-owned energy company GALP Energia on staff training for workers in Timor's future state oil enterprise.
A delegation from the Portuguese firm visited Dili recently and expressed interest in investment in Timor's energy sector. GALP has also identified fuel storage, distribution and marketing as other areas for possible participation.
Timor's head of government, who has been invited to Lisbon to attend a conference on his country's transition to independence, is also scheduled to meet representatives of Portugal Telecom (PT), a principal stakeholder in Timor Telecom.
PT has already invested USD 24 million in building telecoms infrastructures in Timor, which will be handed over to the Timorese state after 15 years.
Alkatiri is also scheduled to meet managers from Portugal`s state civil aviation authority, ANA, to discuss its continuing management of Dili International Airport.
