East Timor To Order Three Indonesian-Built Ferries
JAKARTA, July 25 Asia Pulse - The East Timor Government will place order
for three ferry ships to provide sea transport to Darwin, Australia, as well
as Surabaya and Kupang in Indonesia.
The vessels will be built in an Indonesian shipyard, East Timor
Communications and Public Works Minister Ovidio de Jesus Amral said in
Surabaya last weekend.
Amaral said sea transport infrastructure was vital for the economy of
East Timor.
He said East Timor had already ordered a ship PT PAL Indonesia in
Surabaya, now at the stage of keel laying.
The first ship owned by the government of East Timor will serve the route
between Atauro and Okusi, he said, adding that three more ships will be
needed to serve routes between that country and Australia and Indonesia.
