Timorese Justice Deputy Minister In Luanda For Conference

Luanda, 09/15 - East-Timor`s deputy minister of Justice, Manuel Abrantes, arrived on Wednesday evening in Angola, to attend the conference on Birth Registration in the member states of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP), taking place today and Friday, in Luanda.

Speaking to the press on his arrival, the Timorese government official said that the meeting "will bring great lessons for the people of Timor".

Manuel Abrantes was welcomed at Luanda`s "4 de Fevereiro" International Airport by his Angolan counterpart, Jo? Alves Monteiro, who seized the occasion to say that the meeting has as objective the exchange of experiences and ideas on the registration of birth in the countries of the community.

According to Joao Alves Monteiro, Angola has already a "good experience" in regard to registration services, which results from the various organised campaigns.

Themes like the historical registration, the post independence registration and the present registration will be debated at the meeting that will outline the strategies for the development of those actions.

CPLP comprises Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, S? Tom?& Principe, Brazil, Portugal and Timor-East.

Conference On Registration Strengthens CPLP States

Luanda, 09/15 - East Timor`s deputy minister of Justice, Manuel Abrantes, said on Wednesday, here, that the conference on Birth Registration in the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) strengthens the member states.

Addressing the Press, Manuel Abrantes said that "the presence of the CPLP member states at this meeting makes us stronger, for we can feel the fraternity of the countries that have supported the cause of our liberation and the country, which is now developing".

For the Timorese official, who is in Luanda since Wednesday evening to attend today and Friday the referred conference, his country will try to take advantage of all the knowledge, so as to contribute to a speedier, practical and efficient registration of the Timorese people.

"This meeting comes at a good time, since our government has outlined the year of 2008 as the period for the registration of all Timorese population", he explained.

Manuel Abrantes has said that his country expects aid in the areas of judicial organisation and civil registration, having into account the progresses and experience of Angola in these fields.

CPLP comprises Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, S? Tom?& Principe, Brazil, Portugal and East-Timor.
