Retired BG Tan appointed deputy special representative by UN By Farah Abdul Rahim, Channel NewsAsia Posted: 16 November 2006 1725 hrs SINGAPORE: Retired army brigadier-general, Tan Huck Gim, has been appointed as the United Nations Secretary-General's Deputy Special Representative for Security Sector and Rule of Law. He will serve under the UN's Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT), which is made up of more than 1,600 police personnel. BG Tan earlier served as Force Commander of the military component of the UN Mission of Support in East Timor (UNMISET) Peacekeeping Force from August 2002 for a year. The Singapore Police Force has also deployed 21 officers to join UNMIT for a year-long mission, while the Defence Ministry has assigned two officers to Dili. Singapore has contributed a total of some 1,500 SAF and 400 SPF personnel to more than ten UN peacekeeping missions so far. - CNA/so
