Minister to visit Timor Leste border area

KUPANG: Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro is scheduled to visit the country's borders with Timor Leste on Saturday, an official said Thursday.

"He is scheduled to visit the area during Good Friday celebrations in Larantuka, East Flores," East Nusa Tenggara administration official Ans Takalapeta was quoted as saying by Antara news agency.

Purnomo, who is Catholic, arrived in Larantuka on Friday and observed a ritual procession before continuing on his visit to the marine and land borders with Timor Leste.

The minister would use a helicopter to visit Batek Island, the outermost island bordering Timor Leste, which has been claimed by Timor Leste, Takalapeta said.

Purnomo will also inspect land borders in Belu regency. - JP
