East Timor: PM Alkatiri launches rehabilitation of main Dili hospital
Dili, Nov. 15 (Lusa) - Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri launched work Tuesday
to rehabilitate East Timor's main hospital, a euros 5.9 million project set
to be concluded in October 2007.
During the ceremony, Alkatiri underlined the important role played by
Cuba and China in staffing Dili's Guido Valadares National Hospital and said
East Timor would continue to need international support in the medical field
for the next 10 to 15 years.
The thorough rehabilitation of the hospital complex and construction of a
new operating theater are co-financed by the government and the European
Union.
The Health Ministry has announced plans to renovate or construct five
other hospitals by 2007 in Maliana, Maubisse, Suai, Baucau and the enclave
of Oecusse.
In another development, the country's Red Cross announced Tuesday that it
had formally joined the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red
Crescent at the organization's general assembly under way in Seoul, South
Korea.
