Subject: Timor fishy business under spotlight
Northern Territory News (Australia) November 5, 2005 Saturday Timor fishy business under spotlight THREE Northern Territory researchers have visited aquaculture facilities in East Timor as part of a project that may lead to stronger trade links. Senior aquaculture technician Evan Needham of the Department of Primary Industry, Fisheries and Mines, said the group visited several aquaculture hatcheries during a week-long trip, funded by the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) Crawford Fund. Mr Needham said the Timorese aquaculture hatcheries produced enough juveniles at present for the farmers to stock their ponds. "However, there is scope for further production," he said. "Hatcheries and farmers are hampered by ... a shortage of equipment and skills."
